There’s Been More Snow in Myoko

The First Snow in Myoko

As is typically the case, the first snow in Myoko fell, accumulated and melted, before November was done. The first snow of season 2025/26 fell upon Myoko Apartments back on the 18th of November. We’ve had none to speak of since then until today! The good God Yuki blessed us again overnight and into this morning.  This comes just in time for the first of the planned opening dates of Myoko resorts on Saturday, December 13.

You can check out all the planned opening dates for Myoko resorts here. It’s definitely worth mentioning that that info is merely what is planned and hoped, but we are all at the mercy of the heavens and the aforementioned, God of Snow.

More Snow in Myoko

Today, things are looking good. As mentioned above, we’ve had a fair bit overnight – nothing humungous but a good 25-30cm at village level and perhaps more up top. And the ever-changing forecast is doing right by us so far. It’s difficult to know what will happen too far in advance, of course, but there seems to be at least some more of the good stuff on the menu during the week or two ahead, in the lead-up to the various resorts planned opening days.

Driving in the Myoko Snow

Most of our winter guests who come to stay at Myoko Apartments do so to partner a comfortable stay with ankle, knee or sometimes, waist-deep powder snow. Guests can ski Myoko’s four main resorts but also others like Madarao/Tangram, Lotte Arai, Seki Onsen, Togakushi, Kurohime and even Nozawa Onsen, Togari Onsen, Shiga Kogen, Kijimadaira and more. But while visitors are blessed for choice with all of what Myoko and surrounds’ ski resorts offer, it’s important to plan ahead and stay safe on the roads.

Things to keep in mind:

  • Always make sure your car is a 4WD with winter tyres.
  • Make sure you have an International Driver’s Permit
  • Japan has a strict zero-tolerance (0.00 BAC) policy for drinking and driving.
  • At Myoko Apartments, we clear the car park following a big snowfall, and provide tools like squeegees, scrapers and shovels to help you clear snow from your car.
